I think it's hard to find the real Doom stuff these days since lots of bands call themselves Doom.

For me Doom is Candlemass, Count Raven, Solitude Aeturnus(with a twist), Memory Garden, Krux and so on. Doom has to have a real singer imo.
Am I on the wrong track or......?

Exactly, Torben, I'm with you!
"Real", cool Doom needs to have a singer that can sing, such as in Candlemass, While Heaven Wept or Solitude Aeturnus!

I seem to be a bit behind regarding good Doom bands these days, so I could need
a little help here? ;)

do you guys like the band 'goat horn'?
i listened to some of their songs, and i was really impressed!

Hmmm can't say I'm impressed by Goat Horn, still they have a certain NWOBHM
edge in places, like Handsome Beast gone metal ;).

You might want to check out the classic 'New dark age' by British ale-doomsters Solstice. That's what I call atmosphere. Great vocals also.

P.S. Can't wait for the new Anubis Gate to open. 'Purification' ended up in my 'year's best' list (see Poll 2004 under Playlists).

I don`t think that doom metal needs a vocalist which sings clean. There are many great doom bands which has Growl-singers in their songs. I just want depressive sad lyrics and a very slow tempo to be happy. Check out MOURNING BELOVETH or OFFICIUM TRISTE. You will not regret

As I can't stand growlers, it will be nothing for me, but thanx anyway.

...I've actually been on a Candlemass kick the last few days. B)

Ancient Dreams is a classic album for me!!!

Does anyone here have the Candlemass albums WITHOUT Messiah? The only one I have is Chapter IV.... I've been trying to get my hand on the other two albums without Messiah on vocals. I actually enjoy it a lot, so I've wanted to get the other ones, but they are very hard to find over here.

the non-Messiah Candlemass reminds me of Memory Garden, another doom band I'm a big fan of.

The first one, 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus', is a classic in my opinion. The first three Candlemass albums have been reissued, with bonus tracks, liner notes and protective cardboard sleeves, by a Swedish label. Should be no problem tracking them down on the net.

Brings back memories,I had that one to,they used to sell them at the BP petrol stations. I had about 50 -they even had special ones for Australia ,like Australian Rules Football, Rugby & Cricket. (Although I think the English might of had those last 2 as well) I ended giving them to one of my nephews when he was little and he lost them!

By the way ,did anyone ever see the KISS smurfs? ,there was a big rumour back in 1980 that they made some and were going to release them ,but I never saw any.

<_< I feel astonished nobody ever mentioned the overmighty, the omnimighty Reverend Bizarre here...Torben, if you wish to go for doommetal that is so monolithic and majestic that you won't ever forget your first experience with it, go no further than this place

www.hellridemusic.com/reverendbizarre or www.reverend.shows.it

I just heard their new album and it is a major blast, their last single taken from the album, a 21 minute smasher named "Slave of satan", got to No. 2 in the finnish single charts...and nobody was dreaming...so, well, this should prove that Rev. Biz. are an outstanding band...
